If you absolutely cant sleep during your study, you may be able to take a sleeping pill. This is one of the questions to ask ahead of time. Unless you take a prescription sleep aid regularly, youll be able to use a light over the counter medication like melatonin or Benadryl.

Can you take a sleep aid during a sleep study?

Take your usual medications, and bring them with you, including sleep aids. It is important that you sleep during this test. If you usually require a sleep aid (such as Ambien), bring it with you and take it as usual.

How many hours of sleep are needed for a sleep study?

In most cases, you do not need a full 6 hours of sleep for the doctor to make a diagnosis. There are several things you can do to help you sleep the night of your study. First consider waking a little earlier than usual on the day of your study. Do not take naps during the day.

Do I have to sleep on my back for a sleep study?

If you have only been sleeping on your side during the study, the technician may come into the room at some point and ask you to try to sleep on your back. If you never sleep on your back or cant sleep in that position, we will not require it for this study.
