Amputee support groups provide a safe and supportive environment for individuals living with limb loss or limb difference as well as their family members. The Amputee Coalition is hosting weekly online support groups on Thursday evenings, and we want you to be part of them.

Amputee Blade Runners is a nonprofit organization that helps provide free running prosthetics for amputees. Running prosthetics are not covered by insurance and are considered “not medically necessary,” so this organization helps amputees keep an active lifestyle.

Does insurance pay for prosthetic leg?

A: If youre talking about the Affordable Care Act or the ACA, yes, it covers these devices. If youre talking about health insurance plans sold through the marketplace or exchanges created as a result of the ACA, the answer is yes, too. All marketplace health plans must cover prostheses in some way.

How many hours can you wear a prosthetic leg?

Wear the prosthesis for a maximum of 2 hours, with up to 1/2 hour of that standing and/or walking. These amounts are maximums, and need not all be done at once. Examine the limb after every hour of wearing, and/or after every 15 minutes of standing or walking.
